    The purpose of this class is to provide the LPNs and RNs with an understanding of all aspects of IV therapy including fluid and electrolyte balance, information about the venous system, veins, common IV medical terminology, venipuncture; various means of access to deliver IV therapy including different catheter types and their use, specific IV therapies, complications associated with IVs, different types of IV equipment, accurate administration of IV medications and solutions, caring for patients receiving IV therapy, blood and blood components, and parental nutrition. The course is followed by supervised clinical practice in intravenous therapy to demonstrate clinical competence.
